Maintaining Wellness and Building Mental Resilience Briefing.

1st December 2023 – Stress Management briefing was conducted by Awang Akmal Nasri bin Kamal, Head of Counselling and Diverse Learning Needs Unit, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. UBD Library officers and staff had attended a briefing session entitled: ‘Maintaining Wellness and Building Mental Resilience’ at Ruang Bicara Minda, Ground Floor, Main Library which was later followed by a Question & Answer session. The objectives of the briefing were to discuss about mental health, mental illnesses and coping strategies for stress.

Information and Digital Literacy Programme entitled 3-D Training Approach: Design, Develop, Deliver Workshop.

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library in collaboration with Singapore Management University (SMU) Libraries organised an Information and Digital Literacy Programme entitled 3-D Training Approach: Design, Develop, Deliver Workshop for 2 consecutive days from 27th to 28th November 2023 at Bicara Minda Room, Ground Floor, UBD Library. It was attended by professional librarians from UBD and other institutions.

The objectives of the workshop are to learn how to develop relevant lesson content, including assessments for information literacy programmes, gain confidence in delivering workshops and classes, and identify engagement strategies to promote information literacy programmes. The launching of the workshop was officiated by the Assistance Vice-Chancellor of Corporate and Administration, Pg Dr.Mohd Iskandar Bin Pg Hj Petra, followed by the recitation of the Doa Selamat. The welcoming address was by Haji Awang Muhammad Yussuf bin POKIDDP Haji Awang Musa, Acting Chief Librarian, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Library.

The workshop concluded with a group photograph session and a certificate presentation ceremony and dinner on 28th November 2023 at Spoonfull Restaurant, SEAMEO VOCTECH, Gadong.

Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme (RBS) Briefing.

Library officers from various institutions engaged in a comprehensive two-day briefing, delving into the Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme (RBS) Manual Flow of Work Procedures (MPK) and the online processes associated with the RBS system. The facilitator for the sessions was Tuan Mohammad Suhimi bin Mohd Salleh, the Head of Lending Services Librarian of UBD Library. These informative sessions unfolded on both Wednesday, November 15th, and November 1st, 2023, running from morning to afternoon. The venue for the briefing was the e-Resource Room on the Second Floor of the Main UBD Library.

Wear Green For Palestine.

On the 15th of November 2023, in honour of Palestine’s Independence Day, the UBD Library and Office of Promotion and Events Management (OPEM) took part in a simple yet impactful movement by wearing green, a colour that symbolizes peace, unity and hope, in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Siri Bicara Perpustakaan: Program Bedah Buku -“Liku-Liku Perjuangan Pencapaian Kemerdekaan Negara Brunei Darussalam” and “The Catalyst Towards Victory”

8th November 2023- UBD library organised Siri Bicara Perpustakaan: Program Bedah Buku event today. The program was divided into two talks entitled: “Buku Liku-liku perjuangan pencapaian kemerdekaan Negara Brunei Darussalam” and “The Catalyst Towards Victory” by Dr. Haji Muhammad Hadi Bin Muhammad Melayong. It was attended by students, officer and staff from UBD.

In this book review, for the Judul 1, Dr. Haji Muhammad Hadi Bin Muhammad Melayong explained that “Buku Liku-liku perjuangan pencapaian kemerdekaan Negara Brunei Darussalam” is compiled to describe the state of Brunei in the past and the things that happened during that time including the affairs of the countries that have relations with it so that the intricacies of the things that happened can be known and understood according to understanding, it actually includes the value of the struggle efforts that have been contributed by our grandparents in achieving the independence of Brunei Darussalam.

In the Judul 2, Dr. Haji Muhammad Hadi Bin Muhammad Melayong explained that “The Catalyst Towards Victory” illustrates Brunei’s major political development from the announcement of the Malaysian proposal in May 1961 by Tunku Abdul Rahman, the Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaya up to the abdication of His Majesty the late, (Al-Marhum) Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien III (SOAS III) the 28th Sultan of Brunei 1967”.

The book review session concluded with a Question-and-Answer session.

The Embassy of the State of Qatar Book Donation Ceremony

The Embassy of the State of Qatar donated 150 books covering 31 titles to Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Library on Wednesday, 18th October 2023. The books donated to the UBD library will provide students and users access to selection of Arabic books ranging from Islamic literature, economics and history. Yang Mulia Mr. Mohammed Abdulrahman M.A. Al-Jufairi, Charge de Affaire’s a.d. interim of the Embassy of The State of Qatar presented the books to the Vice- Chancellor of UBD, Yang Mulia Dr Hazri bin Hj Kifle in a ceremony at UBD.

The book donation marks a friendly gesture and cordial relationship in education, culture and arts between Brunei Darussalam and the State of Qatar. The books are to enrich the learning resources available in UBD Library and enable more Bruneian readers to understand and learn about the State of Qatar.

Announcement: NEW RELEASE-State Papers Online Colonial: Asia, Part II: Singapore, East Malaysia, and Brunei

UBD Library is pleased to announce the NEW RELEASE: State Papers Online Colonial: Asia, Part II: Singapore, East Malaysia, and Brunei.

We are extremely excited to share that State Papers Online Colonial Asia, Part II: Singapore, East Malaysia, and Brunei, the latest of an ambitious four-part series that aims to include all Asia-related British Colonial Office (CO) papers from the British National Archives, has now been released and is available for trial or purchase.

The 3,300 volumes of files contained in Part II present evidence of the Colonial administration, the work and concerns of the different governors, and details of trade, business, arms supply, and agriculture. They also document the developing relationships between the British administrators, the trading companies, the local Sultans, peoples and immigrants, as well as external conflicts with Spain, the Netherlands, Philippines, and Japan. Reading through the files one really obtains a sense of daily life in East Malaysia and Singapore over the hundred-year period, enhanced by the many photographs and maps.
