  1. Statement
    1. Library users are expected to keep all their belongings, especially valuable items, within their sight at all times.
    2. The Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library is not responsible for the loss of personal items. Therefore, library users are urged to keep their belonging safe at all time.
    3. The following guidelines clarify the handling, return, reporting, tracking, claiming and retrieval of lost items, as well as procedures for turning in found items and for disposing of unclaimed ones.
    4. The Library 'Lost & Found' centre is located at and managed by the Daily Library officer-incharge in the Main Library.
    5. The library has the right to amend the policy regulations from time to time.
    6. Any enquiries or report on a found item, please contact the Security staff in person at the Security, or by phone at 2460921 ext. 2033, or by email reference.library@ubd.edu.bn
  2. Found or Turned in Items
    1. Any items found at Library should be turned in to the Security Desk at the Main Library.
    2. Daily Library officer-in-charge will log all items found or turned in to the Libraries 'Lost & Found' centre and store them in a locked cabinet.
    3. If not claimed within the same day they were found or turned in to the Libraries' Lost & Found centre, valuable items, such as jewelleries, wallets, watches, purses, keys, backpacks, and electronic devices, will be announced via UBD Library Social Media by the Promotion Department. This will be kept for three (3) months.
    4. If an item has any identifying information (e.g., student IDs, books or notebooks with names written on them, wallets, purses, etc.), a member of UBD Library staff will attempt to contact the owner via phone or e-mail.
    5. If a valuable item was found or turned in to the Libraries' Lost & Found centre on the same day and was not claimed by the correct owners, it will be kept until it is claimed.
    6. Non-valuable items, such as books, notebooks, writing instruments, documents, and anything else the Library found as non-valuable or unlikely to be claimed, will be kept at the Library Lost and Found cabinet for three (3) months.
    7. If lost items have not been claimed by the end of the semester, they will be discarded as deemed appropriate. Unclaimed books will be added to the University Libraries' collections, or discarded as deemed appropriate.
  3. Reporting Lost Items Procedures
    1. Library users who wish to report lost or stolen items must do so at the Security Desk in the Main Library; they must provide their names, phone number, and/or e-mail address and a specific description of what was lost. This information will be entered into the Libraries' Lost & Found logbook.
    2.     3. An immediate comparison will be made between what was reported lost and what was found or turned in to the Security Desk. If items in the logbook match the materials found or turned in, the item in question will be immediately returned to its owner.
    4. If reported lost or stolen items are not among the items found or turned in to the Security Desk, the person reporting the missing or lost items must inform the Police.
  4. Claiming Lost Items Procedures
    1. In order to claim a lost item, the owner must describe the item as closely or accurately as possible and will need to present an ID if the item has a name on it. After ownership is established, the owner signs out for the item in question.
  5. Role of Founder
    1. Provide details of the items found in the Lost and Found Logbook.
  6. Role of Reporter
    1. Provide details of the items lost or stolen in the Lost and Found Logbook.
  7. Role of Security
    1. Ensure the logbook is filled-in with the information of reported lost or stolen items and found items.
    2. Call out at least one witness during the hand-in of lost and found items and giving back of lost and found items to the claimant.
  8. Role of Eyewitness
    1. Sign the logbook as the eyewitness of the lost and found process.
